TIME: FALL 2015 // 12 WEEKS
TEAM: MARIA HURTADO
LOCATION: ROME, ITALY
The following project focused on the reconnection of the city of Rome back to the Tiber River. In order to recreate this connection a bridge was constructed to allow the public to restore the relationship to the river. This project includes a water research center as well as a Tiber river museum located on either end of the bridge, utilizing the inside of the bridge in continuation of the museum.
By utilizing Michelangelo's axis of a proposed but never executed design we were able to enhance the axis in it's purest form. Additional axes from the site indicating important landmarks were used to create the formation of the two buildings on either side. Finally, the location of the bridge where Michelangelo's axis intersects was created into a piazza. Here, the two sides of the bridge descend to the floor of the piazza keeping the axis clear of any visual barriers.
